It is often said that form follows function. If that is true, what a lovely function we are following. The cabinet traces a curvilinear path established over a decade ago on the original Gibraltar. Here, the top surface tumbles down at the rear corners - a difficult treatment to execute, but one that produces a uniquely beautiful effect.
Triple-plated steel handles are inset into ellipses that allow for a secure grip, which is necessary when lifting an object over 200 pounds. Inside, the rear backing plate is well over half an inch thick and contoured to follow the inner surface, yielding a massively strong structure.
No.32’s new badge treatment combines the materials that appear most frequently within its design; the carbon fibre used throughout the driver is inset within a polished, cast alloy basket that is finished in 3 layers of plating to achieve a jewel-like sparkle. The overall design speaks to the remarkable efforts that went into ensuring No.32 is as striking visually as it is technically.
REL 32's in my space. . . . .
"After a month of living with pair of new REL 32’s I can say they are simply great and truly exceed what I had imagined was possable. My system is set up in a large room that also doubles as an art show space for my business for the last 30 years. Thanks to the extraordinary time, patience and knowledge of my dealer and the REL rep Clay it sounds wonderful. The 32’s blend seamlessly with the system and create a wide, deep and spatially stunning window into the music. What I really love is the ability of the 32’s to portray the most nuanced and often surprising details of recordings that I have known for decades. The contribution of very low bass that is fast, clean, realistic and powerful allows me to hear very specific pitch, harmonics and the resonance of acoustic instruments. It may be bit ironic that such very large and beautiful 185 LBS. piano black subs add such a deeply sensitive and emotionally expressive quality to my system. The air, claity, atmosphere and realism of my listening experience is at a new level. Kudos to the REL folks. The system: Twin REL 32 subs, Rockport Cygnus speakers, Berkeley Alpha 3 Reference DAC, Esoteric Transport, Jeff Rowland Corus/PSU and twin 625 S 2 amps and a complete loom of Shunyata Sigma and Omega V2 cables w/ Everest 8000."
