'Speaker Size Matters More than Room Size'

The Biggest Audio Setup Myth #6 Debunked with John Hunter

The Truth About Room Size vs. Speaker Size.

The transcription of the video can be found below:

Myth number six, 'What matters more, room size or speaker size?' I'm going to make the obvious statement that room size matters more because the speaker is a subset of the room. Subwoofers are a subset of your speaker.

The subwoofer is critical, but getting the subwoofer critical is getting the speaker right in the first place and then getting the speaker set up really, really well.

If you have a beautiful room, gorgeous, you know, 36 x 24 with 12 foot ceilings or whatever it is that permits a certain kind of speaker to be used. Similarly, if you have a conventional, not a REL, but a conventional, say double 12 inch piece in a room that's only 11 feet wide and 18 feet long, it's going to be overloading that room pretty dramatically the second you start to crank it up at all. I would say that room size is the most important and then getting the speaker size to that. The subwoofer is going to drop in easily after that.

Once you know your speakers and you know they're working right in your room, we can do some really good things.

So, look, if you've been kind enough to watch through this, understand that we really believe in getting it right. It starts with going to a quality dealer, getting a great demo, a properly scaled demo that makes sense for your room, your system, and then if you have additional follow-on questions, or if you want to start with us and sort of get familiar so that when you go into the dealer, you feel a little bit better prepared for the experience that's going to happen, then reach out to us first.

In the end, this is all about a lot of people, a lot of professionals in our industry really want to help you as a customer make the right informed decision.
