Many don’t realize the intense linkage between performance and design here at REL. Performance is everything to us and so it drives physical design revisions. Our engineers, recognizing the need for greater acoustic volume to achieve the goals of greater fluidity and power, turn to the designer who works dimensions to fool the eye into seeing a smaller, more compact footprint even though cabinet volume increases. Using gently rounded corner radii that allows the eye to flow over and see less visual mass. The result is both modern and familiar with no unnecessary adornment.
Mind Officially Blown
"Since I can remember, I have been obsessed with HiFi. My first job was an integrator’s apprentice for Ellis Custom Installations, A high-end HiFi sales and installation company in Laguna Beach, CA. I then went on to a career as an audio engineer and continued to integrate high-end HiFi, home theater, and Automation systems on the side. All that to say, I have very precise expectations of my gear. I keep my HiFi completely separate from my work; the biggest mistake I ever made was replacing my HiFi system at home with a studio-grade monitoring system from a company that remains an industry standard. My listening for pleasure has increasingly gone the direction of low-power tube and class-A solid-state, full-range or two-way max, high-efficiency speakers. I have been struggling for years to find a subwoofer that can keep up with the speed of my speaker preference, and all but given up. After hearing nothing but praise about REL subs from some guys I really respect, I decided it was time to give REL a shot before abandoning the idea of a commercially produced subwoofer. So I picked up a REL T/5x, and boy, am I glad I did. After getting the REL integrated with the high-level input and calibrating it to my system and room, my mind was actually blown by the speed at which this little sub operates. No lag, no mush, no ridiculous DSP getting in the way, and what’s more, the texture of my FirstWatt Aleph J was still being faithfully reproduced and not masked. I was so blown away, in fact, that I bought another one, which greatly helped in pressurizing the room evenly. It also improved the stereo separation and soundstage width and depth. It turns out, REL was the answer all along, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The fact that a subwoofer-specializing company is putting out such game-changing gear, even nearly all the way down the product line, truly speaks of the passion behind the brand. REL isn’t just out there milking the top 1% like so many high-end HiFi companies out there. REL is, in fact, building truly magnificent gear to enrich the experience of the fanatics for this noble hobby. REL has made a die-hard fan out of me, and I am truly thankful for what they are putting out into the world. Thank you, REL!"
