In a REL product line defined by gorgeous cabinetry, perhaps no model has received a more comprehensive update than 212 Black Label. A single vertical strake runs the cabinet’s height, capped by a distinctive crown badge that signals its refined status. On the top panel, an all-black badge framed in carbon fibre further marks it as Black Label. The warm silver, bead-blasted handles have a raw titanium feel, both striking and practical, while solid billet aluminum inside keeps things safe and steady, cutting down on unwanted resonance. An optional premium wood grille enhances both airflow and aesthetics, completing a design of unmistakable authority and refinement.
Wonderful Additions -- 212 Black Label
"I was not planning to get a pair of 212 Black Labels when I visited the store on a Friday in late May. But my salesman offered a pair of 212SXs at an incredible discount and I did not balk. I knew it was a good deal (for the SXs), so I bought them immediately. But I went home and did the research anyway. Short version, by Monday I called to change my order to a pair of 212 Black Labels. While the SXs were in stock, the Black Labels were back ordered. The initial July delivery date slipped to late July and then finally, to late August. I waited patiently but wondered if I had made a mistake by switching my order. But once they were set up in my space, I knew I had made the right call. My space is not a dedicated theater space. It's open concept with the kitchen, dining and living room area together. The 212 BLs were to replace a single 15" subwoofer that I had nestled in the corner. I had researched the benefits of a pair of subs, but didn't feel comfortable about taking up too much space. The amazing dimensions of the 212s assuaged that concern. I am only one month in with the 212 BLs but am loving every minute of the journey. I noticed an improvement immediately in terms of "coverage" (where the bass seemed to be) but within a few days (perhaps after they had broken in some), I noticed the overall sonic improvement to my system. The sound (both for theater and 2 channel music) was just richer, fuller, more immersive. (Think of the difference between adding hot water to make instant soup and Mom's homemade soup -- same food but just wholly different execution!). Better in every way. In addition, they are gorgeous. Heavy and glossy, they are exquisitely made, in form and finish. They are sizable pieces of equipment, but they have curiously begun to shrink in our space. They feel like they have always been there. Not intrusive at all. The carbon fiber, the lacquer, the different gradations of black -- all exude quality. And importantly, they sound better than they look. Next steps? I'm waiting to run a new calibration after giving the 212 BLs more time to season. Can't wait to hear that improvement.
