Reimagined, Then Reengineered
A completely redesigned flagship
T/9i delivers more than just raw output. We started with our driver upgrades and built outward. The lovely cabinets grew by 4 lbs. (1.8 kg) over its predecessor due to thicker cabinet walls and improved bracing. Why? Because the additional speed and impact of the new drivers requires greater control or the benefits can be lost before they get to the listener.
Innovative Alloy/Fibre Bass Engines
The new composite alloy/fibre engine in T/9i blends precisely the correct dimension of stiffening alloy with a fibre material chosen for its sonic neutrality and light weight. The combination is brilliant; exceeding the performance of competitors’ drivers that are many times more expensive. The forward-firing 10” active couples with a 10” down-firing passive, again with carefully chosen balances of alloy to fibre and the result is seamless, effortlessly deep bass that blends perfectly with the main speakers.
Great Subs, Great Amps
The Brains Behind the Brawn
Our acclaimed input filters and robust amplifiers result in some of the best sounding, most reliable designs ever produced. High current power supplies, huge toroidal transformers, and what many critics call the best filters in the world produce the famous REL Effect—where in not simply the bass region but ALL music and movie sound is uplifted and improved.
Standby Mode switch not included on 110V units.
Zero Compression Wireless
Following on the heels of the acclaimed LongBow™ Wireless, Arrow delivers much of the promise and connectivity of hardwired RELs with the placement flexibility and pure cool factor of great wireless for all of T/i. For a reasonable sum, Arrow gives you the ability to place subs in distant corners, along glass walls, or on hardwood floors where a cable would otherwise destroy the effect.
I wrote a review after owning the REL T/9i after I first had it for about a month and I didn't think it was that good. Our lounge is rectangular (mid to large size) and the stereo TV etc and seats are positioned opposite the ends of the longer walls, but narrower width of the room. At the time I didn't understand just how long some of those deep sound waves are, like up to 16 feet. If you position the sub facing you like your normal speakers and there's not 16 feet distance then your not going to hear the lower sound waves needing this length. So once I found this out I positioned the REL facing to cross the diagonal length of the room, which was well over 16 feet and I could do this without putting the sub right into a corner. Oh My GOODNESS. What a difference. I was gobsmacked at the low frequencies that filled the room, which I didn't even know were there before. And it still works wonderfully at very low volumes, meaning you don't even have to crank up the stereo to get an amazing effect and can enjoy your music at night without waking up the rest of the house. It also made no difference if I had the sub positioned diagonally across the room from the front or the back of the room, each sounded just as good as your ears just heard the base, without knowing where it was coming from, it gives the illusion the base is coming from your main speakers if you've got the sub volume and crossover settings correct. I would highly recommend this sub woofer, it's great with music and movies. I would never be without a REL sub as part of my Hifi system. It's excellent!
This is the third REL subwoofer that I purchased for my system. They are a great sub for music and theater that has a beautiful cabinet. The subs have great rich sound, are very complementary and enhance the other speakers, fill out the entire room with a warm, full sound. When watching action movies, they add great depth to the sound of the action. Rel has great tools online to help match the Rel subs with your speakers, help with placement and provide subwoofer recommendations for music and theater. Again, a great product with wonderful sound and overall excellent customer experience.
Beautiful piece inside and out - who would expect both from a subwoofer? By utilizing the high level input with the supplied cable, the T/9i maintains all the characteristics of the silver cabling to my amp but essentially ignores the amp's incoming wattage. Once the .1 and high levels were tweaked, the REL became sonically invisible while providing a lush, solid and satisfying deep end. But instead of hiding it in a corner - I proudly placed it front and center between the speakers where it can most easily be admired.
Sounds awesome and we haven't even tuned it yet.
The first 24 hour burn in was light on the volume and bass demand, but even with that very revealing. We new we had a good sub right away.
Can't wait to see where it takes us once we tune it with the room!
Running a single T/9i with a pair of 1990 Nelson-Reed 8-02B floor standing speakers. Really transforms our system. Bass is much more dynamic, tight and defined. Set up videos and FAQs on the website are very good. We are happy we went with the REL.

I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t hold out much hope in being able to integrate a subwoofer so easily into my current setup. Primarily due to not accounting for one over recent years and placing more and more furniture into the space, which in turn decreased the ability of positioning for such an addition. But I have to give great credit to the guys at REL Acoustics for creating a subwoofer which A. has the perfect range of controls to seamlessly take on the remaining last couple notes in the bottom end so well as well as fleshing out the midrange and treble very naturally and B. has such a fast and agile responsiveness that it kept up with the speed of my ceramic drivers. "I mentioned the use of two T9/i subwoofers, and what makes the addition of a second sub interesting is that unavoidable modes contingent upon the dimensions of the space, in other words the resonances, are less excited with this configuration. Use two subwoofers in different positions and you can run both at lower level than were one to be trying to fill the space with a single sub, one reason why two subwoofers are better than one, even two mid-sized ones rather than one large one. The drivers usually respond more quickly and, with less cone movement, can create the same sound pressure as one doing all the work alone, usually meaning distinctly less distortion and audible effortlessness." "As I spend more time with the T/9i and the drivers settle in, I find it requires a slight reduction in level to continue to integrate unobtrusively with my setup. What it brings to the way a system handles recordings old and new is insightful, and one of the most rewarding additions to my hi-fi setup in recent times, allowing the main loudspeaker to do its thing, but even more so." “REL’s T/9i is an excellent subwoofer for the audiophile. It’s capable of making big bass noises, but is also more than capable of freeing up the loudspeakers and liberating them from the dictatorship of the room. While there is no substitute for huge bass traps and other room treatments, a pair of T/9i get you most of the way there without the domestic angst room treatment can cause. Highly recommended” Read More +

"To some, the only thing better than a subwoofer is two subwoofers, and that was certainly the case when we tested the REL T/9i. While a single T9/i delivers the speed and depth we have come to expect from REL designs, the true strength of the argument comes when you use a pair of subwoofers, but not in the way you might expect."
