Bring on the special effects
HT/1205 delivers a tough, simple, purpose-built appearance designed to communicate its sole mission; devastatingly high output home theater. The cabinet’s width is minimized reducing visual mass, whilst depth is maximized to produce the deepest bass. We selected tough, high-grade, horizontally oriented line-grained composite to wrap the entire cabinet, which offers easily handled, easy cleaning. This more basic design vocabulary differs from the more refined finishes found in our other lines, however the top surface that catches one’s eye is beautifully finished in 5 coats of hand rubbed lacquer, creating the visual appeal we’ve come to be known for.
Twelve-Inch CarbonGlas™ Driver
REL’s driver prowess is on full display with the HT/1205, a modern 12” CarbonGlas™ (300mm) driver that is both lightweight and extremely stiff. While many competitors drone along with relatively slow, heavy cones HT/1205’s uses tough, stiff carbon fibre over 60% of the driven surface, backed by lightweight glasfibre. Naturally, we use true high quality natural butyl surrounds as they remain soft and pliable for decades—something REL owners have come to expect. HT/1205’s new 12” CarbonGlas driver sets a new standard for affordable, high performance theater-specific drivers.
Warn the neighbours, it's movie night
500 Watts: To accomplish our single-minded goal of exceedingly high output for large-scale theater applications requires a special amplifier. Our NextGen5 Class D amplifier frees up interior space whilst running cool; this results in more cabinet volume and that translates into louder and deeper bass. 500 watts means the driver never is allowed to starve for power ensuring a long running, reliable design. Within HT-1205’s input filter, we designed in specific inverse filtering to permit our CarbonGlas driver to extend much deeper than traditional designs.
Zero Compression Wireless Compatible
There is wireless and there is REL wireless. We are well-known for having the finest wireless purpose-built systems in the entire component audio world. Though HT-Air™ is affordable, it retains our corporate fixation on zero compression and maximum dynamics. HT-Air is designed to leave old fashioned Bluetooth-based systems in the dust, delivery latency in the 16-20 millisecond range. This permits owners to place your HT/1205 where it works best for you without resorting to unsightly cables being strewn across the landscape of your living room, all while retaining our category-leading super-fast wireless.
This Rel is my third in almost 20 years.
I started out with a second hand Q50 on a students budget.. And years later I was able to invest in a Storm 3. Which I had for many years.
When parenthood happend I spent a few years without home audio.
This Rel marked my re-entry in the home audio-happiness.
Please don't let this "baby-sized, entry-sub" fool you in any way. My living room is about 10 by 6 meters. (32x20ft) and 2,5m (8ft) high. And this little (wife friendly ! ) cabinet delivers like I wouldn't believe. Ive spent the last 18 years as a professional live-sound engineer, and I'm used to all kinds of sub, sound pressure levels, and WOW factors.
And this little baby knows how to put a smile on your face. It's fantastic with classical music on whispering levels, and it will make you uncomfortable at party levels. It's tight and fast as a drum. It has depth, power and speed. It offers so much for such a great price.
I would recommend investing in a decent subwoofer cable though, it really does do a lot!
Absolutely no downsides? Sure, if I have to name something; it lacks a bit of musicality. But then again, the series is called "Home Theater" :-)
Would 10/10 recommend to a friend
HT 1205 this is awesome sub paired with wireless communication transmitter. Bass you can feel in the seat of your pants. No regrets with this purchase.
I’m coming from two SVS PB2000 Pro subs. So I’m used to great controlled bass. But the Predators are what I would call “carnage bass”. Did an REW sweep with one turned on, good response down to 10hz (I kid you not, though I did put a HPF on to drop the response of quickly under 20hz in the end), natural couple of db peak at about 35 hz, then a big null around 100hz (caused by my room). Turned the second predator on, increased SPL across the board all the way to 10hz and no nulls. All I did was flip the phase, pretty much seamless flat integration out the box with no DSP with my mains. John Wick 3 punches slam your chest and the shot guns near the end, next level. It’s all so controlled, which is the key difference between these and the SVS. The 15 inch driver just adds so much weight, but being a sealed unit it retains its agility. Amazing result. They sound awesome.
HT/1003 is a good addition for someone looking for small footprint
The subwoofer has plenty of low end for movies. When tuned right the sub is very musical an blend very well.
There is a part of me that wanted to send this sub back and use the money somewhere else, possibly floor standing speakers that don't need a sub to produce some decent base. But, Its just too good... Oh and by the way, I bought this home theater sub for mostly music! I saw a couple of reviews on the YouTubes and people were praising this thing's musical potential. I know there are a couple other decent options in this price range for musical subs but something about a beautiful, 12in REL with a 500 watt amp just kind of turned me on. So far, Sooo good. It's seems to be sounding a little better everyday and I am looking forward to researching and buying some speakers to compliment this subwoofer in my Mostly audio set up. I did watch some x-men something or other last night and it was quite impressive. It's not going to crack your floor boards but very fun and most importantly, it just sounds good. OH yeah, and it looks amazing. the carbon fiber looks all tough and gangster and the top of this sub, well, It's just freaking sexy. I wanted to give this thing 4 stars just because. But, for the price range, It's just too good...

There should be no doubt that the HT/1205 is a bass-making bargain, and it offers a notable upgrade over the smaller HT/1003 for just £200 more – that model doesn’t go as deep or loud, but is a little easier to integrate into a more compact movie room. And, anyway, this is home cinema and we like it big, bold, loud and not too expensive. REL's HT/1205 fits that billing nicely. Read More +

The low-frequency delivery is superb, thanks to a fast and responsive performance created by the sealed cabinet. The 12-inch driver and 500W of Class D amplification go deep, but there's still plenty of control. As a result, the bass remains tight rather than boomy, allowing this sub to create a big and bold performance that has both power and agility. Read More +
A BESPOKE 12IN driver and 500W NextGen5 Class D amplifier do the grunt work in REL’s good-looking subwoofer, and conjure a performance that exceeds expectations given the appealing price. The HT/1205 – the larger model in the company’s new range of movie-focused designs – revels in chaotic sound mixes, attacking bass transients with a sledgehammer punch and maintaining a tight grip as the volume is nudged higher; there’s a scale here that belies the sub’s compact dimensions.
